The popular “Sonic Runway” art installation is returning to Downtown San Jose. This interactive installation features a tunnel of 25 sound-activated, illuminated arches in front of San Jose City Hall.

The Runway first made its debut in 2017 led by a team of artists that included Rob Jensen and Warren Trezevant and designer Stockhausen. While its initial stay was extended, the first iteration of this art installation only lasted around 6 months. The Sonic Runway installation will now make its grand return on November 5, 2021 with promises to stay in its San Jose location for 6 years.

Kerry Adams Hapner, San Jose’s director of cultural affairs, says fans can expect a different experience from the first time around. According to Adams, “The Sonic Runway artists have been working hard to create a new version of the iconic art installation that sets a new bar in terms of a quality visual and sonic experience.”

A celebration for the opening reception is scheduled for 5:30pm on Nov. 5th with a performance by San Jose Brazilian percussion and dance group, Bloco do Sol. There will also be a DJ and food trucks! Come out and see this fantastic piece of local flare for yourself!
