South First Friday, Artcar Fest, and Downtown Doors

The first Friday of August is this week, which must mean it’s South First Friday! This is a special South First Friday, as the ArtCar Fest rolls through downtown San Jose on its way to Southern California. The ArtCar Fest features wildly artistic and interactive cars and other motor vehicles, as well as fashion, music and family friendly fun. Bring your camera – you’ll want to capture the ArtCar mile-long caravan and fashion show. South First Fridays features exhibits by many talented local artists at galleries, restaurants, and various spaces in the SoFA District of downtown San Jose (South First Street between San Carlos and Reed Streets). Mediums include all types of painting, glass art, photography, sculpture, and textiles. For a list of participating locations and artists, click here. Along with the art walk, the Street Mrkt features local musicians and vendors. And if you’re hungry, there’s a line-up of food trucks including Quick Dog and the MoGo Korean BBQ truck, plus plenty of eats and drinks along First Street. This is a free event and open to all ages. While you’re in downtown for South First Fridays, check out Downtown Doors. Downtown Doors features the art of high school students on otherwise stark utility doors at some of downtown San Jose’s businesses, hotels, and apartment complexes. There are 16 unique works of art scattered throughout downtown San Jose at such places as The Fairmont Hotel, Camera 12, and The Colonnade apartments. For a walking map of Downtown Doors, click here. So plan to spend this Friday, August 5 leisurely strolling through downtown San Jose enjoying an eclectic evening of arts & culture.
