After a period of delay, The Ohlone apartment complex is in the spotlight once again. This mixed-use project, previously a VTA staging area and bus lot, will stretch over 8.25 acres on West San Carlos and Sunol Streets. Green Republic, a Barry Swenson Builder and Republic Urban Properties partnership, has high hopes for transit-oriented development as an alternate option to the traditional single-family homes. Here there will be approximately 800 units of residential space along with 25,000 square feet of retail and an underground parking garage. Since this development is in Midtown San Jose, Green Republic wants to maintain the feel of Midtown by not exceeding 150 feet in height, respecting the surrounding environment. The development is projected to include solar panels, water management, green roofs, and utilizing waste to landfills. In addition to the apartment complex, there are current plans to place a park as a notable feature. This will be a major transformation for Midtown San Jose!
