The start of the World Cup is just around the corner and soccer fever is coming to downtown San Jose. The San Jose Downtown Association (SJDA) is teaming up with the San Jose Earthquakes to throw viewing parties in downtown that will show 20 of the World Cup soccer matches played in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Dubbed ‘The Summer of Soccer’, the viewing parties will be held for Round 1 matches at Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park and Round 2 matches at Saint James Park. The viewing parties will show the soccer matches on a giant screen and will also feature food trucks and other soccer festivities. The first viewing party will be on June 14 and will feature a whopping 4 World Cup matches starting at 8:15am. And if 4 World Cup matches isn’t enough soccer for you for one day, then stick around for the SJDA’s Starlight Cinema presentation of ‘Bend It Like Beckham.’ For the full World Cup Soccer viewing party schedule, check out the ‘Summer of Soccer‘ webpage.
