Downtown San Jose Comes Alive: ArtWalkSJ and Free Live Music This First Weekend of September

Downtown San Jose is buzzing with creative energy this September and it all starts the first weekend of the month. Whether you're a longtime local or just looking for a new reason to explore the city, two free events are turning the SoFA District into a weekend destination you won't want to miss.

Friday, September 5: South First Fridays / ArtWalkSJ

Kick off your weekend with South First Fridays, a monthly art walk that transforms the heart of San Jose’s SoFA District into a vibrant, walkable celebration of local art and culture.

From 5 PM to 9 PM, you can:

  • Visit gallery openings and exhibitions
  • Catch live performances, pop-ups, and public art installations
  • Explore creative spaces like MACLA, ANNO DOMINI, KALEID Gallery, and more

Whether you’re here to support local artists, enjoy a night out, or just take in something new, ArtWalkSJ offers a fun, free, and inspiring way to connect with the creative community that helps shape San Jose’s unique identity.

Pro tip: Pair the art walk with a visit to one of SoFA’s many local cafés or restaurants for dinner, drinks, or dessert along the way.

Saturday, September 6: Free Live Music at Levitt Pavilion San Jose

The celebration continues Saturday night with another free outdoor concert at Levitt Pavilion San Jose, located at St. James Park. As part of the 2025 Levitt Pavilion Concert Series, these shows bring top talent to the heart of downtown and everyone’s invited.

Grab a blanket or a lawn chair, bring your friends or family, and enjoy an evening of live music under the stars. The concerts are designed to be inclusive, upbeat, and completely free to attend.
